Things to do in Kanha

Kanha is a place where the forest sets the pace. Vast sal forests, open meadows, abundant wildlife and the traditions of local communities make every day here feel different. From early-morning tiger safaris and birdwatching to sunsets in the wild and encounters with local culture, Kanha offers experiences that bring you closer to the landscape and its stories.

Kanha National Park

One of India’s most celebrated wildlife destinations, Kanha National Park unfolds through dense sal forests, sweeping meadows and quiet water bodies. The reserve is home to Royal Bengal tigers, leopards, wild dogs, gaur, deer and the rare hard-ground barasingha, making every journey into the forest an experience of discovery.

Tiger Safari

Head into the forest at first light or during the quieter afternoon hours on an open-jeep safari through Kanha Tiger Reserve. Follow forest trails through changing landscapes while watching for tiger movement, alarm calls and sightings of barasingha, gaur, sambar, chital and other wildlife. No two drives through Kanha ever feel quite the same.

For a deeper understanding of the landscape, visit the interpretation and museum facilities associated with Kanha Tiger Reserve. Discover more about the region’s wildlife, forests, conservation efforts and natural heritage, adding another layer of context to everything you encounter during your safari.

Bamni Dadar Sunset Point

Often called one of Kanha’s most memorable viewpoints, Bamni Dadar offers sweeping views across the forest landscape. As daylight begins to fade, the meadows and distant woodland take on warm shades of gold, creating a peaceful pause after hours spent exploring the wild.

Local Tribal Market & Village Visit

Discover everyday life beyond the national park by visiting nearby tribal communities and local markets. Meet local residents, explore traditional produce and handmade goods, and gain an insight into customs and ways of life that have remained closely connected with Kanha’s forests for generations.

Bird Watching

Kanha rewards those who look beyond the big cats. Its forests and surrounding landscape are home to a remarkable variety of birdlife, from Indian rollers and racket-tailed drongos to kingfishers, treepies, storks and birds of prey. Early mornings around the resort and forest edges are particularly rewarding.

Nature Walks

Slow down and experience Kanha on foot with a walk through the natural surroundings of the resort. Listen to birdsong, notice native trees and smaller details of the landscape, and experience a quieter side of the wilderness that can easily be missed from a safari vehicle.

Baiga Tribe Community Dance

Experience the traditions of the Baiga community through an evening of music and folk dance. Traditional rhythms, movement and attire offer a glimpse into the cultural heritage of one of the region’s indigenous communities and create a meaningful connection with the people who call this landscape home.

Kanha Meadows & Barasingha

Kanha’s open grasslands are among the finest places to experience the diversity of the reserve. Watch herds of chital, sambar and the iconic hard-ground barasingha grazing across the meadows while keeping an eye on the surrounding forest edges, where predators may quietly appear.

Elephant Experience

Discover another perspective on Kanha’s forest landscape through elephant-based activities operated within designated areas of the reserve. These experiences are controlled by the Forest Department and may vary depending on season, operational conditions and availability.
